2022 Kia Telluride SUV Officially Unveiled In U.S.

Kia Telluride 2020 Model Launch In U.S.
20

The 2022 Kia Telluride is a big and boxy 8-seater SUV.

While automotive companies are always looking to the future with their eco-friendly vehicles, they also need to appease customers keen on following the current trends.

Kia proved that they are all in on the current demand for crossovers and SUV’s by unveiling their biggest vehicle ever at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. The vehicle in question is the 3-row, 8-passenger 2022 Kia Telluride.

We actually got the very first look at the Telluride 8-seater SUV all the way back in 2016, when it was shown in Detroit as a concept vehicle. It was also displayed at New York Fashion Week several years ago, and it’s fair to suggest that the production model differs very little from the concept SUV.

This is not the first time that Kia have gone big with an SUV, as they launched the Borrego large SUV in 2009. That particular model proved to be a flop, thanks in large part to the economic collapse in the U.S., as well as rising prices at the pump.

Given the current demand for bigger SUVs, this seems like a much more opportune time for Kia to jump back into the large SUV market.

V6 engine, 8-speed automatic gearbox, towing & AWD

When it was initially released a decade ago, the Borrego came with a gas-guzzling V8 engine. The more modern Telluride large SUV now comes available with a V6, making it much better on gas.

Under the hood of the 2022 Kia Telluride you’ll find a 3.8-liter V6 engine that delivers 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The highly potent V6 engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with FWD as standard.

A 2022 Telluride with AWD is available, with Kia claiming that with the proper equipment, the Telluride has a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds.

Luxury features in Kia Telluride

Kia have become known for delivering more for your money, which is something they are doing with the Telluride SUV. You will find luxury items such as Nappa leather upholstery and reclining 3rd row seats that will deliver real comfort.

Kia Telluride SUV looks beautiful inside. The Nappa leather in white colors and wood trim look superb.

On the technology side, the Kia boxy SUV will come equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. USB ports abound, while music will be delivered via a Harman/Kardon audio system that includes a “quiet mode” function that mutes sound in the 3rd row.

Among the safety and driving features in the new Kia Telluride are like adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring, as well as available Highway Driving Assist.

The latter employs both radar and lidar to keep the car in the center of the lane when following a vehicle in front. In the case of an object approaching from the rear, Safe Exit Assist will ensure that child locks remain activated. Kia will also add a feature that helps ensure that children or pets are not left unattended in the rear seats.

Pricing (updated)

Pricing for the US-specs 2022 Kia Telluride has just been released and we are happy to report that it has only increased by a little bit, compared to the previous model year.

The front is definitively NOT Volvo 3.5L V6 and hybrid is definitively not Volvo. Volvo carry only 4 bangers 2.0L and many turbos engines NOW in the new XC90 no more trouble maker L6 engines.

I like it. It reminds me of a Land Cruiser and Land Rover and Soul. That is one hell of a design. I dont really care about the healthy features. Just if it goes into production focus on the design more than the 3D effects and the health features. This looks even more production ready than the Mesa and Cross GT concepts.

Yes, it uses a similar styling language as Volvo. And that nothing wrong with it. Volvo is one of the best-looking SUVs on the market, so if Kia could bring something similarly styled to the market as well, I think it would sell like crazy.

I love my Kia Sorrento! It’s over two years old now but has been completely rock solid – comfortable, spacious, reliable and loaded with features. If this comes out, I will be at the dealership the day it is released. Please make this car Kia!

It definitely has high hopes for a growing family, our 17 Sorento has been nothing but fantastic and am in need of a bigger unit. We were going to pull the trigger on a new expedition but will wait to keep in the Kia family as they are the best built vehicles out there.

This car definitely has great potential in Europe – EU as well. Many people would prefer big SUV to a van.
