The 2023 Kia Sportage comes available with 3 different drivetrains; the gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid.

The regular, gas-powered Sportage comes fitted with a brand-new 2,5L GDI 4-cylinder gasoline engine, which generates 187 horsepower and 187 lb.-ft. @ 4,000 rpm. The new unit offers more power and torque, and achieves better fuel economy compared to the outgoing 2,4L engine.

For the very first time in US and Canada, Kia Sportage is also offered as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Under the hood of both hybrids stands a 177-horsepower 1.6L turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine. Each model boasts a different electric motor, however, resulting in a different amount of horsepower.

The 2023 Kia Sportage hybrid comes equipped with a 59.3 horsepower electric motor and 1.49kWh battery size. The final horsepower rating of the Sportage hybrid totals 227 horsepower.

The 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV is even more powerful and boasts a total of 261 horsepower (uses electric motor with 89.7 hp). Thanks to the use of a bigger 13.8 kWh battery, the Sportage PHEV achieves up to 32 miles of range.
