How fuel efficient is the 2023 Kia Seltos and what are its fuel economy ratings?

While we already know a good deal about the upcoming Seltos SUV, the one thing that was a bit of a mystery was the EPA fuel economy. The 2023 Kia Seltos mpg figures have now been announced for the new SUV.

The Seltos comes with a pair of different engine options to choose from. There is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that delivers 146 horsepower, as well as a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder variant that cranks out 175 horsepower via the dual-clutch transmission.

We are going to take a closer look at the fuel economy figures for the Kia Seltos, including how your engine choice will impact the mileage that you can expect from your new ride.

2023 Kia Seltos 2,0L MPG

  • FWD: 29 / 34 / 31 (city/highway/combined)
  • AWD: 27 / 31 / 29 (city/highway/combined)

You have the option of FWD or AWD when choosing the Seltos with 2.0-liter engine. If you select the FWD option, you can expect fuel economy rated at 29/34/31 mpg city/highway/combined.

Expect to see a small drop in the Seltos fuel efficiency when selecting the same engine with AWD. The numbers there are 27/31/29 mpg city/highway/combined.

Kia Seltos 1,6L Turbo MPG

  • AWD: 30 / 25 / 27 (city/highway/combined)

The 1.6-liter turbo engine sits at the top of the Kia Seltos range and comes with very respectable fuel economy numbers at 30/25/27 mpg city/highway/combined.

Which Kia Seltos is the most fuel efficient?

If it’s the most fuel efficient 2023 Kia Seltos that you are looking for, then the LX model with the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with FWD and the IVT transmission is the way to go.

The top of the range Kia Seltos turbo model is not quite as good on gas, but it delivers in other ways!

The truth here is that the difference in fuel economy ratings is not so huge that you will notice any sort of real impact on your wallet. Some drivers care more about the power of a turbo engine or the traction of AWD as opposed to fuel ratings.

Seltos MPG figures compared to other small SUVs

When compared to the 2020 models of the competition in the subcompact SUV segment, the 2021 Seltos more than holds its own.

When looking at small SUVs / crossovers with front-wheel-drive (FWD) drivetrain, you will see that the Hyundai Venue, Mazda CX-30, and the Nissan Sport Rogue offer a combined fuel rating of 32, 28, and 28 mpg, respectively, all short of the 31 mpg offered by Kia Seltos.

The Venue does not offer AWD, so let’s replace that model with the Subaru Crosstrek, with automatic transmission, for comparison among the AWD models.

The Crosstrek combined fuel rating is 30 mpg, while the CX-30 and the Rogue Sport both deliver 27 mpg. The Seltos looks good among that group with a combined 29 mpg.

In the turbo engine category, we have the Hyundai Kona and the Jeep Renegade in for comparison with the Seltos.

The combined 27 mpg of the Seltos is the same as the Kona, which is not a surprise, but it edges out the Jeep renegade by 1 mpg. Worth noting here is that the Seltos is 5.4 inches longer than the Renegade and 8 inches longer than the Kona.
