The new G80 truly is a masterpiece on wheels!
The global corona virus fears are having an impact on everything from sporting events to motor shows.
One of the biggest events on the automotive calendar is the Geneva Motor Show, but automakers are now left scrambling after the cancellation of this year’s event dur to those health fears.
Genesis were quick to react, posting images of the G80, the vehicle that could have been unveiled in Geneva, on Instagram.
The images show off some truly striking design details, some of which have already appeared on the G90 and the GV80 SUV.
What’s immediately clear is that the 2021 Genesis G80 is a major improvement on the outgoing model.
2-lines define the 2021 Genesis G80
The “two line” design theme that Genesis has adopted is very much evident on the exterior design of the G80. This design theme is seen in character lines along the exterior and also with the headlights.
One design element that cannot be missed is the huge Genesis signature grille, which is also present on the G90 flagship sedan.
The “two line” theme can also be found on the taillights, which are part of a three-quarter angle look around back that features the Genesis script on the center of the trunk. There is not denying that the GV80 SUV is a stunning vehicle, but you can argue that the design theme seems even better suited to the G80.
A look inside the new Genesis G80 2021
The interior of the G80 also boasts many of the design cues of the GV80, which means more of a minimalist look. A thin line of air vents run across the stylish dashboard and a row of open-pore wood, with nicely organized climate controls below.
The GV80 center console, which features a controller for the infotainment system and an electronic gear selector, carries over into the G80. The multimedia screen is a huge one, measuring in at 14.5 inches and tucked nicely at the back of the dash.
Overall, the interior and exterior design of the 2021 Genesis G80 is much more stylish and dramatic than what we saw with the outgoing model. It’s a breath of styling fresh air for the G80.
Engine & gearbox specs yet to be announced
- 2021 Genesis G80 to offer AWD
Genesis are remaining tight-lipped about the powertrains that will be use in the new G80. What we do know is that the 2020 model will have new powertrains, as well as an all-new platform and high-tech safety technologies.
The 2021 Genesis G80 will have the same RWD setup as the GV80 SUV, so it stands to reason that it would come with a 2.5-liter turbo inline 4-cylinder or a 2.5-liter V6 twin turbo engine.
As is the case with all Genesis vehicles, we all expect the AWD will be an available option, with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.
2021 Genesis G80 US-market release date
- Rumor: 2021 Genesis G80 to make its official U.S. premiere this April
Word from Genesis is that the G80 will be officially unveiled in South Korea this month (March), so we should also have official US-market release dates for you soon.
Expect to see it on display at the New York Auto Show in April, assuming that event doesn’t end up going the same way as the Geneva show.
