Expectations are high for the new high performance Kia models, the 3-door Pro_Cee’d GT and the 5-door Cee’d GT, which will hit showrooms in the middle part of 2013.
Both GT models will have an updated version of Kia’s 1.6-litre GDI (gasoline direct injection) engine, with a twin-scroll turbocharger and strengthened components.
The new engine will pack quite a punch, with power and torque both seeing a dramatic increase. Maximum power, which comes in at 204 ps, is up 51%, with torque seeing a 61% increase to 265 Nm when compared to the non-turbo 1,6L GDI model.
With power comes speed, and both new models will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in a blazing fast 7.9 seconds. Kia knows that power and performance should go hand in hand, which is why both GT models display outstanding dynamic characteristics.
Kia wants the Pro_cee’d GT and the C’eed GT to be visibly different than their sister models, so they have added a few unique design touches to make that happen.
The exterior of the two models will definitely be one that catches the eye, with new grilles and lamp clusters, deeper bumpers, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers and special paint finishes.
The front end of both models should be very noticeable, thanks in large part to the addition of LED daytime running lights.
On the inside, Recaro sports seats have been added, as have alloy pedals and bespoke surface materials. It’s a very sporty style, but also one that creates a definite air of ambience.
Sales of the Pro_Cee’d GT and Cee’d GT will commence in Europe in the mid part of 2013, with production scheduled to begin at Kia’s production plant in Zilina in May, 2013. Pricing for both vehicles will be announced closer to the release date.
While final specifications will also be available next year, listed below are the preliminary technical specification for the European release.
