Kia Venga images released ahead of its official Frankfurt Auto Show unveiling.
Kia has released the very first official images and details about its long-awaited B-segment mini-MPV, which will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Frankfurt auto event in September. In addition, Kia also announced its all-new model will feature a Venga nomenclature.
When Kia Venga goes on sale across Europe, it will be available with a choice of two 1.4L or a 1.6L gasoline and diesel engines. All four engines will be mated to manual or automatic transmissions and will generate from 75 to 115 horsepower.
Every single engine in the Venga line-up will be fitted with Kia’s eco-friendly start-stop technology, called Idle Stop & Go -ISG system and will comply with strict EURO 5 emission standards that will go into effect in 2010.
Kia Venga is based on a slightly modified B-segment platform which is also used in the Soul crossover. With its overall length of 4,068mm, the 2010 Kia Venga is just a little shorter compared to the Soul, but features longer wheelbase. The 2,615mm long wheelbase is un-usually long for the B-segment vehicle and promisses to offer levels of interior space typical of a larger C-segment car.
Kia’s stylish mini-MPV will be equipped with a sliding 60/40 split rear seat that folds flat into the floor and a twin-level boot floor. Kia Venga will also be available with tilt-and-slide glass panoramic roof and other luxuries such as heated seats, navigation system, automatic climate control and a wide-angle rear view mirror reversing camera.
The all-new Kia Venga will be built in Hyundai’s European manufacturing plant and will be marketed exclusively for European market. Depending on country, the new Venga is expected to go on sale later this year or early 2010. There are no plans to put Venga mini-MPV on sale in the States.
More images and official information of Kia Venga will be released closer to its inaugural European debut, scheduled for September 15th. Stay tuned forKia-World’s complete Frankfurt auto show coverage!
Kia Venga gallery:
I like the five lug wheels (not very common on b-segment). I also like the smaller Forte wheels. I do not like the climate control, and I don’t like the radio unit. They look cluttered and hard to use.
I like the overall design, except of alloy-wheels. Hope Kia will offer Venga with various alloy-wheel options!
Is it pronounced Ven-GUH or Ven-JUH?
ven-guh probably like in venga boys. it probably has a meaning in some european language.
I like the car overall design inside and out. maybe the tail lights needed some more work but designing tail lights is awkward. very few tail lights look good in this world. Lancer, Forte, Soul and the LED ones of Mohave are some that look good. The Rio replace should look even better. bcuz every new car from Kia is the best until the next new car arrives.
Venga is spanish for ‘come’
now what’s that got to do with the car? maybe they mean follow?
Venga sounds too much like Venza, the Toyota that is stupid on the inside and out.
More I look at the images, more I like it. I’m not too sure about it’s name. Somehow, the No.3 has grown on me and I’d prefer the no.3 over Venga name.
–
Overall impressions is really nice. Venga is a stylish car and should do good when on sale!
i wish it was called “No.3” and brought state-side. maybe replace the rio. or call it a “no.3, no.4, & no.5” and have a 3 door, 4 door, & 5 door variant 😉 just thinkin out loud 🙂
Yep, to put it simply, I like the look of that…
ARRRG KIA… You really HAD to take the really good and sharp looking design of Concept No3, and fuck it up… as much as I love Kia and most of it’s products, it is really disappointing me that they changed the sharp n good looking No3 Concept to this fugly car.
I like this design…I like it a lot! Venga? Humm…No.3 is just as good a name but the important thing here is the sharp looking design, once again Kia nailed it right on the mark. The only negatory to me here is it’s not comin’ to da States. =:(
like i said Bryan every new car car from Kia is their best. So the Rio will look even better. 🙂
just hope they get the naming right for the next rio.
I like it all , very nice & great design . It’s have a good choice of engines for europe it’s a perfect car ! .
Himi, the KIA PR doesn’t mention any navigation system or twin-level boot floor. Where did you get that information? I hope it gets a decent trip computer like the Cee’d FL. Do you know if the ESP has Hill-start assist? Since all line-up will be fitted with ISG, I’m sure it also comes with ECO driving guide. The interior picture from the PR is from an petrol version and you can see it has a 5-speed manual transmission. Probably the 1.6 115hp CRDi has a 6-speed transmission. The cluster doesn’t have oil and temperature gauge which it’s a shame.
The overall design is great, very similar to the concept. I believe dark colours will fit better in the Venga. The interior is nice as well; I just don’t like the red button for the flash lights and the fabric of the seats. Also the plastics from the dashboard seem to be a little bit to shiny but I have to see it in person.
Official Kia UK PR includes a twin-level boot floor information, while navigation is a bit of speculation, but since rivals of the Venga (next gen. Opel Meriva) will offer the navi, I expect it to soon appear in the Venga as well.
Looking very very good. Great interior design. Not “vengaing” to North America? Pity.
Hey….. What happened with the new Kia Grille?????
umm, i can see it quiet clearly on this car in the pix…
can’t u?
whats happening with the Rondo/Carens? They said they were going to revamp every model by 2012, so what’s the latest.
isnt going to be discontinued? ANd the carnival/sedona too?
The Rondo and the Sedona will live on…..at least for a little while. The Rondo and Sedona will both receive a mild facelift for MY2010. They will both feature the tiger nose grille!
Tiger nose grille? I like the headlamp design and the fact that it doesn’t vary much from the concept. Hope the new Rio that’ll come to the U.S. has some new pizzazz to it, not that design at the bottom of this blog. =;(
the H-grille is described by Schreyer as a Tiger’s nose. well, carens is technically optima SW. so hope they style it like the optima in its facelift.
Yeah it is like an Optima5 (I hope they never market it as such). It has the same frame as the Optima, same drivetrain, same suspension, same steering components, but different body. Actually, the Rondo’s engine bay was set up to hold the 4.6L V8. Yes, I am not kidding you, a 4.6L V8 will fit in the Rondo’s engine bay. The battery and fuse box in the cargo area, and electric power steering, it has been done. Not to mention with AWD, the engine is about a mm away from touching the underside of the hood. I would love to drive that with a 6 speed manual and AWD, that ride would kia-ck ass! What do you think, 4.5 second 0-60? Could you imagine 350+ HP, and 325+ lb-ft of torque? In a Rondo? Sorry, that’s just the full blooded American in me, I like V8s. Could you throw a turbo four cyl in there and accomplish the same thing? Yeah. But does it sound like a V8 monster under acceleration? No, it sounds like a four cylinder. Does the gas mileage suck? Yeah, but I have disposable income. I am probably Europe’s biggest enemy by now, I’m gonna shut up. Sorry, I’m off topic, and thinking out loud.
Greg, your off-topic forced me to throw this off-topic in here. Do you like the new Dodge Challenger SRT8? In orange with black stripes? All-American, I know. It’s a heavy retro-60’s/70’s car, nicely designed outside but up to $41,850 for the 2010 model. Yikes. I get the H-grille thing now from Schreyer. The VG strays from that, no? Or is it H-grilled, in an odd sort of way?
the VG’s grille is ugly! and yes it does have the upper and lower lips on the grille like you see in the H-grille. but it looks nothing like an ‘H’. best 2 call the grille, tiger nose grille. but the VG still has a nose to be revised.
Boris – THANK YOU! At least I;m not the only one who thinks the VG is fugly. I love the rear and side views of the VG, but the front looks awful!
A work of art and guys you have to make this the Next Gen Rio for the US market.
The US and the Euro Rio will be different they say, so this bigger B segment might come to America after all. Americans like MPV sized B segment care, not standard B-Segment sized cars. The Rio in the US Is the Size of a B-Segment MPV. Why shrink the Size?
This is not the new rio , the next rio be out at the end of next year . Kia Venga will be sold in Europe only & made in Europe .
The Next Rio is the No.2 concept, but that will be for Europe too. The No.2 will be smaller than the Current Rio, and this is just barely the same size as the Rio. I dont think a smaller Rio would do well in America, it would onlu make logical sense to bring over something bigger.
The US Rio is supposed to be a different car than the European Rio, but just with the same name for now on. The Rio is too big for Europe, and somewhat decent size for most Americans, I think thats what they are going for.
–
KIA might be trying to accommdate the size preferences of both Europe and the US.
The Accent will be a 5 door MPV type hatch with a sedan variant, and a sporty coupe for America. Why not the same for the Rio?
What I like about this is the attention to engineering detail. I’ve noticed that over the last few years, Kias have been gaining an extra lugnut on each wheel. The Sedona moved up to six, the Borrego has six, while most competitors have five. The Spectra had four, the Forte as five. The Rio5 has four, the Venga has five. Call me weird, but for some reason, the first thing I look for on a car is the number of lugnuts.
Hyundaismoke WHERE you see the concept no2 ?????????? , it’s a concept no3 , the no3 it’s the concept of Venga.
well if there’s a no3, then there’ll a no2 sometime in the future… o but i dont really have much to do with cars any smaller than a c-segment.
Another car Europe gets that the USA doesn’t! This is ridiculous Kia. They have the cee’d line, now they’re getting the Venga? I know this car is a bit funky, but I’d take one and put it next to my pro_cee’d. I’d take the Venga with the 1.6L diesel and manual transmission.
–
I agree with Greg- the name does remind me of the Venza from Toyota. Why not just call this the Picanto SX or something? The Picanto has a much smaller engine range, but is a similar appearance (I know- the Picanto is a smaller vehicle along with it’s engine range).
–
Slightly off topic- I was looking at the USA Hyundai site and found they will have the electric power steering (“motor drive power steering” is what they call it over here) on the new Accent and Elantra, standard, for the MY 2010, while the Forte only gets it, optionally (i.e.: additional cost) with the Forte EX with an automatic transmission. The cee’d line has the electric power steering. I think the Soul in Europe also does. Why don’t we get it on more over in the USA?
With electric power steering, there is much more load on the alternator. Any kind of power steering will use the engine’s power one way or the other. Any kind of power steering takes away from fuel mileage, as does any electrical equipment. Even driving with the radio all the way up is draining your MPG. Hydraulic power steering is more readily available, and MDPS isn’t developed for most of Kia’s vehicles, and it doesn’t really help fuel economy all that much. The only place it helps is that power steering only uses the electricity when the wheel is turned, hydraulic power steering is always pumping. The Forte’s gas mileage improves 2 MPG with the FECON package. The 5 speed auto, aero enhancements and silica tires contribute to about 75% of the 2 MPG, smart alternator is another 10%, and MDPS 15%. So MDPS adds about .3 MPG. Is it really worth it?
Greg- The thing I like about the MDPS, at least in theory, is less chance of killing the vehicle when parking (in a manual transmission equipped vehicle). The 2006.5-2008 Optimas were really bad, though that wasn’t the power steering. I’ve been driving about 12 years now, and parking is the only time I ever had trouble with killing a vehicle, and it was usually from turning the wheel (I always reverse into the parking spot) and the engine’s RPMs dropping so much it kills the vehicle. I imagine the MDPS will alleviate this issue. And as you said the MDPS will only be using power when it’s steering, whereas the hydraulic pump is always on. It’s like the new breed of superchargers that are electrical rather than belt driven. They will be using electrical power rather than engine power.
Concept No.2 might come out at Frankfurt Darren. It will be the same size as the Hyundai i20, which is 3 inches and 1 inch lower than an Accent 3 door hatch, and shorter than an Accent or Rio 4 door by a WHOPPING 13 INCHES!!!
–
Yeah, way too small for American consumption as a B-segment car. An A segment yes, but a B-segment no.
Hyundiasmoke . Ok . I don’t angree with you when you said b segment car is too small for american , you known Ford already start it export the Fiesta to America it’s the same size of Hyundia i20 and the same like toyota yaris it’s already on the market .
to me the fiesta looked a little bigger than i20.
Same here, the new Ford Fiesta for 2010 looks both wider and longer than the Hyundai i20.
Yeah it is Bryan and Boris. The Larger and Cheaper Accents and Nissan Versas (Renault Megane/Clios) have been oupacing Yaris sales this year as well, the only Yaris that is really selling this year is the Newly US Introduced 5 door liftback. The Honda Fit is now the top seller in Subcompacts in America closely followed by the Accent and the Versa.
–
The Yaris seems to be a fad thats fading fast, while the Accent is getting stronger.
–
Part of the changes for Accent sales is not just based on size and price its the Chevrolet Aveo (Daewoo Matiz). Until last year the Chevy Aveo 5 door was the top selling B-Segment subcompact in America. With the new very controversial looking Chevy Aveo with a $3000 hike in price has made Aveo sales plummet.
–
Little known fact:
2 years ago the Chevy Aveo with an $8600 base price Outsold the: Accent, Versa, Yaris, and Rio combined
They had to move the Aveo up in price though, to make room for the Chevrolet Spark.
–
Darren B-Segments are not too small for America if you make them big enough The Hyundai i20 is not big enough for American sale, so logic would dictate that the European KIA Rio would not be big enough for US sale too. However, Hyundai is looking to bring in 1-2 more B Segment cars besides the Accent, and a Dedicated Hybrid car thats bigger than the Accent but smaller than the Elantra. I think it should be Veloster, and i20.
–
Darren i20 sized cars can sell here in America, but only at a much lower price then what they traditionally ask for B-segments.
The Rio needs to be cheaper than the Accent as well. The Rio should have a basic 3 door priced at about $9900 for the base. Make the Rio a $10,000 Honda Fit The Accent has to be the more expensive B Segment car since Hyundai is going to be the more expensive make out of the 2 of you guys. Make the Accent a $13,000 Audi A2 or Mercedes A Class.
–
Theres a reason why Hyundai sells 3000 more Accents a month than KIA sells Rio, and thats price. KIA is not as trusted of a name as Hyundai is in America yet, and selling the not too attractive Rio with a Base price $2000 higher than the more attractive Accent was a not a bad marketing move, it was a horrible one.
Its 6 inches shorter than the Rio, but has a wheelbase thats 6 niches longer than the Rio.
Right on HyundaiSmoke, that was dumber than doornails of Kia to try and sell base Rio’s for $2,000 more than Accent’s.
Bryan the point is to get as many people as possible into Rio to get the good word out, and then more people will buy Rios due to trust. That strategy has worked with the Accent quite well.
The Accent has enough brand name now, and so many people know about it to the point to where I can guarantee you they will drastically raise the price of the Accent for the next generation.
The same scenario has to occur with the Rio.
This is what the doctor ordered to Replace the US Ri, and what is KIA probably going to do? Replace the Rio with another stupid Shrunken down clown car sedan.
$9000 for an i20? That’s PATHETIC and WAAAAAY UNFAIR!
Without the scrappage scheme you would have to shed about £9000 (note the pound sign) for a mid/high-spec i20.
$9000 is way too cheap
Kia should bring new world order Rio base price to this, too. IIUC the base Rio is priced $2,000 more than Accent, and people don’t view(even though we might)Kia as a higher-end brand than Hyundai. Lower them, Kia! Look carefully at how Cash For Clunkies went and keep ’em hidieously low. Don’t worry about trying to move your image higher, the great car’s build and performance and looks will earn that slowly over the years. It’s worked for me, but, I have strayed over to Mitsubishi for my current rig. I am not a fair-weather Kia fan, though, and I know they’re only going to grow and get better over time. Mitsubishi and Kia and even China’s BYD are my fave carmakers at this time.
The i20 is a lower rung car than the Accent or Rio in terms of product placement too Johnathan. i20 is on the Getz level, i25 and Venga will be on the American Accent/Rio level. I think the Euro Rio will be cheaper than the i20 though.
The Elantra in the US costs $2000 more than the Forte for example, that same pricing formula will happen with the B-Segment cars soon enough. Then again, I think Hyundai/KIA have cut their losses on the Current Gen Accent/Rio in America to work on Next Gen Models. I dont even think the Accent or Rio will even get a Refresh except the interior stuff in America. I think they plan on just releasing the new ones next summer.
I like this. Would love to see a Rondo along the same design lines; that would be a Rondo with 2010 styling instead of Honda Fit/Jazz styling from 2000.
